The United States entered WWI in 1917. Because many wanted the U.S. to stay out of the war, we were unprepared for the expenses of the conflict. In an attempt to raise money for the war effort, U.S. leaders organized a series of concerts across the country.
Many patriotic entertainers volunteered to perform. But for the maximum amount of revenue to be raised the organizers needed to convince the internationally renowned opera star, Enrico Caruso, to perform. Caruso was more popular than Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks, Beyonce, Elton John, etc… all added together. Organizers knew that if the great Caruso would join the tour they could raise millions of dollars for the troops.
When the organizers approached the great Italian tenor they told him how badly he was needed. They said if we can just tell people Caruso will perform it will make all the difference. You don’t have to sing a long time. You don’t need to perform the difficult songs.
Just sing a couple of easy songs. That’s all we need from you. “ Will you help us?”
Caruso slowly arose from the table. He said, “Gentlemen, CARUSO NEVER GIVES LESS THAN HIS BEST!”
When you play in this game tonight, GIVE YOUR BEST. If you play two minutes or thirty-two minutes, give your best on every possession.
If you are on the bench – stay involved and encourage others.
Get every loose ball, screen tough, box out.
One possession could be the difference in this game.
Gentlemen, an Eagle never do less than his best. You don’t have to be perfect tonight. We will make mistakes. But it will be because we are aggressive and attacking. Give your best for SBA tonight!
LET’S GO!
