1. BE SPECIFIC IN YOUR COMMUNICATION
The Point Guard College materials are so strong because they clearly illustrate the how and why of basketball fundamentals.
“quit turning it over”
“take care of the ball.”
How much better is it if we say:
“shorten your passes”
“chin the ball”
“throw your passes harder and away from the defense”
“stay low, slow and strong in that trap.”
Be Precise.
Don’t tell me my defense stinks.
Tell me to stay in my stance, get a hand up, see the ball & help sooner, etc.
This is information a player can use.
2. ENTHUSIASM IS CONTAGIOUS
The Cardiac Tournament, the Gorilla Drill and the World Cup all illustrate this point.
Think about how you can energize your players and your fans.
3. WEAK MINDED TEAMS WORRY ABOUT OFFICIATING.
Whining about the referees:
- Doesn’t work for you
- Is a waste of energy.
- Loses coaching opportunities
- Enables an excuse/explanation/blame mentality
4. SHOT SELECTION MATTERS.
5. YOU CAN’T BE A GREAT TEAM UNLESS YOU CAN REBOUND THE BALL.
6. HAVE KIDS KEEP A NOTEBOOK.
They can write down your plays, press breaks, thought of the day, etc. It keeps good information in their hands. It also gives them a resource during a slump or losing streak to help keep them positive.
7. IRON SHARPENS IRON
I was greatly reinforced by our camp coaches. We all need fellowship and encouragement. Knowing that so many colleagues that I love are praying for me and our family is amazing.
Thanks, guys and gals.
8. I MISS COUCH STREET.
9. URUGUAY HAS A VERY HUNGRY TEAM.
10. I CAN’T WAIT FOR BASKETBALL CAMP NEXT YEAR!
I hope you win your games and build champions for the Lord.
Keep up the good work.
Read some good books.
Recharge with a good vacation.
Make memories with your family.
LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE HILT… FOR GOD’S GLORY.
